This is Dr Mok’s journey 2018-2024. Some of the data points are from a decade earlier, just for comparison. See prior blogs and podcast (Inside the Cure with Dr Charles Mok) for individual steps.
Intervention includes, but not limited to:
- *Lifestyle interventions
- *Senolytics every 3 months
- *Geroinhibitors every other week
- *Stimulation of gene expression SIRT1 and aMPK daily
- * Inhibition of gene expression mTOR
- *stimulation of thymus gland T cell expression (immunity) (in a two month on, two month off fashion)
- *Lipid Management with Dr Joel Kahn MD *numerous supplements
2012 185 lbs, 8.5% body fat
2023 185 lbs 8.4% body fat
2024 193 lbs, 8.2% body fat (61 years old)
- Body composition (same machine) 11 years apart.
- Increased lean body mass, increased skeletal muscle mass
- Decreased body fat %
- Normal trajectory is a loss of lean body mass
VO2 Max is a measure of cardio-respiratory fitness.
51 mL/kg/min VO2 max is the top level of fitness for a 30 year old man. This is mine the week of my 61st birthday.
Bone density
- Bone density is a hallmark of aging. A high bone density is very protective and a low bone density is risky for premature death.
- This is my bone density which is at the top percentile for a man at any age.
Cardiovascular age
• Measured with CIMT (Carotid intima media thickness) and plaque volume.
My CIMT at 56 years (4/23/2019)
2021 December
Brain age
- Neuroquantitive imaging. This is done with an MRI to evaluate the state of brain (relative to age and sex). As we age, our brain mass (in this case hippocampus volume) declines, and the fluid surrounding our brain (ventricle volume) increases.
- This is my brain scan with a 1 year interval. Multiple interventions to create neuroplasticity (growth of brain tissue).
- In one year, my brain mass grew 22% and brain fluid (dead space) shrunk by 88%, putting my brain age at the 90 percentile of a 20 year old man

Epigenetic age
- Epigenetic age is a measure of your genes through a count of methylation of a certain portion of your DNA. The epigenetic age tracks with your actual age. Those who live to 100 generally have an epigenetic age that is slower than actual age, whereas those who will live a shorter life have genes that age faster than the actual yaers (chronological age).
- I come from a family that has a relatively short lifespan, and my epigenetic age was older than me before intervention. But over 2 years, my epigenetic age reversed by 2 years. This is a multi year gain in my epigenetic age.
- As of now, we do not know with any certainty that reversing or slowing epigenetic age will extend lifespan and health span. This does appear to be true in laboratory experiments, and potentially is a measure of added healthy years in humans.
Biological age
- Unlike the epigenetic age, biological age is a measure of blood markers and compares it to other people matched for sex and chronological age.
- The theory is that if you are aging faster biologically, you will have a shorter period of health and life. If your biological age is slowing down, you will have a longer period of healthy lifespan.
- This is my testing with a two year gap showing that in 28 months (2 years and 4 months) I aged biologically 10 months
