Platelet Rich Plasma Hair Restoration

Platelet Rich Plasma Hair Restoration

Better Results: Platelet Rich Plasma

Whether you’re experiencing hair loss due to aging, hormonal changes, or an underlying medical condition, Platelet Rich Plasma treatments can restore your hair naturally. You’ll love looking in the mirror again! PRP uses your own growth platelets to stimulate hair growth, thickening your hair by encouraging dormant follicles to “wake up” and get back to work producing hair. Because you’re using your own body’s resources to stimulate hair growth, the results will look organic—your hair after treatment will be the same color and texture as your existing hair. You’ll just have more of it.

PRP is a nonsurgical method of promoting healing that’s been used in wound care and orthopedics for decades. About ten years ago, PRP was found to be useful for treating hair loss, too, particularly for patients who have already tried other therapies and for patients who prefer nonsurgical options. It’s now considered a cutting-edge way to restore hair. Another bonus? PRP is effective no matter how old you are—we’ve seen patients in their 80s have thicker, fuller hair as a result of PRP.

How PRP Works

In order to make PRP more effective, during the initial consultation, we go over your medical history to see if there are any other factors that might be contributing to hair loss, such as hormonal imbalances, skin problems, or medications. If we do think there are other issues involved, we call in one of our medical professionals (dermatologists, hormonal specialists, regenerative services staff) to evaluate the situation and recommend which treatments will be the most beneficial.

To create the PRP serum, we do a simple blood draw, then spin your blood in a centrifuge to isolate the plasma portion of your blood that is rich in growth platelets. After several careful rounds of capturing the plasma, we inject the PRP into the scalp immediately surrounding the balding areas. This increases circulation to those areas, which ultimately promotes healing, stimulates growth, and suppresses hair loss. The entire procedure—including gathering your information and deciding which treatment works best for you—takes about one hour from start to finish. (The injections only take 10 minutes.)

Comparing PRP With Other Methods

In the past, creams like Rogaine were the one of the main ways of treating hair loss, especially for women. However, Rogaine only works by increasing circulation, which is not as effective as providing your follicles with healing factors that encourage individual hairs to grow. (Creams are also messy to apply.) PRP not only stimulates circulation, it also stimulates the growth cycle and the formation of collagen, a combination that makes it much easier for your hair to grow. This is why the results from PRP are more effective and last much longer than what you would get from using Rogaine.

Other methods of hair restoration include surgical transplants and Neograft. Neograft in particular is effective, but those with less-pronounced hair loss may prefer PRP treatments since they are less costly, take less time to have done, and have no downtime.  And because PRP serum is made of your own body’s healing factors, PRP treatments are all-natural and do not have any side effects. In addition, because we do a hair health checkup when we first see you to evaluate your hair restoration options, we’re able to pinpoint any other issues that may be causing your hair loss. Addressing those first means we’re able to maximize the results of your PRP treatments.

 FAQ

A variety of factors can cause hair loss: natural aging, genetic baldness, traction alopecia, skin issues, hormonal changes, underlying medical conditions, medications, or hair loss caused by breast cancer treatments.

Hair loss, thinning, or a receding hairline are all indications.

No. However, we do use a cutting-edge method that provides a more highly concentrated, more effective PRP treatment than what other providers offer.

In the past, we used a product that contained growth factors to help stimulate growth (Acell Matristem), but we have found that our advanced method of hyper-concentrating the PRP in your own blood creates a far more effective serum than what was used in the past, so we now generally recommend using only your own blood to create the serum.

PRP is a state-of-the-art, nonsurgical, natural medical procedure that uses your own body’s growth-promoting resources to restore your hair.

In the past, we used a product that contained growth factors to help stimulate growth (Acell Matristem), but we have found that our advanced method of hyperconcentrating the PRP in your own blood creates a far more effective serum than what was used in the past, so we now generally recommend using only your own blood to create the serum. Not needing to use additional growth factors also allows us to charge less while still obtaining excellent results.

Roughly one hour from start to finish. We take about 40 minutes to gather your history and information and figure out what treatment is best for you, and then we create the serum using your own platelets. The injections are done with a very fine needle and only take about 10 minutes.

The only thing you need to do to prepare is to be hydrated and to have eaten something. This is because we will be drawing blood.

The length of time varies from individual to individual. Most people have results lasting beyond a year, after which point the process can be repeated.

We recommend having five PRP treatments to get the best results. The first three treatments are scheduled one month apart, while the last two are three to six months apart.

You may feel slight discomfort when PRP is done; afterward, you will feel like you have a slight sunburn for 1 to 3 days.

There is no downtime. You may experience some soreness of the scalp for approximately 1 to 3 days after the procedure (at the most, it may persist for a week). This soreness usually feels like a mild sunburn.

You can resume your normal activities immediately after treatment, although we do recommend not working out or doing any heavy lifting the same day. Ice compresses may be used on the scalp or forehead to prevent swelling. Over-the-counter pain medications can also be used as needed.

Yes, because PRP will stimulate your own hair growth. The platelet-rich serum is injected into your scalp, where it stimulates dormant hair follicles to “wake up” and grow new hair.

Anyone with thinning hair or hair loss. (PRP is an especially great choice for patients who have already maximized other medical therapies.) PRP can also be used in conjunction with hair transplants.

Yes, the trained regenerative services technician who did the procedure will follow up with you the day after your first treatment as well as 3 to 6 months after the completion of your package.

The methods we use to create and administer the PRP serum cause little to no swelling/pain. At Allure, we’ve done over 1,500 PRP procedures and have seen a 90% success rate.

For best results, we recommend doing five PRP treatments, which is $3000.  The treatment is cannot be covered by insurance.
